DSM Adds Record-Breaking 34th Route with New Nonstop Service to Gulf Shores, Alabama
May 21, 2025
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is on a roll this week. Hot off the heels of launching a new brand and logo on Tuesday, DSM is proud to announce its record-breaking 34th nonstop route, this time to a brand-new state for the airport: Alabama.
Starting this October, Allegiant will begin seasonal nonstop service between Des Moines and Gulf Shores, Alabama (GUF). Flights will operate on Fridays and Mondays, perfect for a quick weekend escape to the coast.
This marks the first time in DSM’s history that travelers will be able to fly directly to Alabama, and it also marks the fifth new route available at DSM in 2025.
It’s a milestone for Gulf Shores, too. The city just launched commercial air service for the first time in its history. The newly opened Gulf Shores International Airport will welcome its first commercial flight today, May 21, an Allegiant departure to Knoxville.
“We’re thrilled to bring our passengers even more options as our nonstop service lineup continues to grow,” said Brian Mulcahy, Executive Director of Des Moines Airport Authority. “We appreciate Allegiant’s commitment to DSM and making this great family destination an easy option for Iowans.”
Allegiant flights to Coastal Alabama begin October 3, 2025. Known for its beautiful beaches, family-friendly attractions, and warm Gulf waters, Coastal Alabama is quickly becoming a top travel destination. Now Iowans can get there nonstop, and no layover is required.
This exciting addition further solidifies DSM’s position as a regional travel hub. It comes during a week of momentum for the airport as it expands air service and debuts a new visual identity to match its growing reach.
