New Terminal. New Opportunity. Southwest Adds Nashville Nonstop from DSM.
July 16, 2026
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is excited to announce that Southwest Airlines will begin new daily nonstop service between Des Moines and Nashville (BNA) beginning in March 2027.
The announcement marks the first new air service opportunity associated with DSM's new terminal, which is scheduled to open in January 2027. The new facility was designed to create additional opportunities for airlines to grow and for travelers to enjoy more nonstop options.
While Nashville has long been a favorite destination for Central Iowa travelers, Southwest's new nonstop service offers passengers another convenient choice, expanding travel options and providing additional flexibility when planning trips.
"A terminal isn't just about bricks and glass, but about creating capacity for what's next," said Brian Mulcahy, Chief Executive Officer of the Des Moines Airport Authority. "When our community invested in a new terminal, we knew it had the potential to create opportunities for future growth. Today's announcement is the first example of that vision becoming reality. We're thrilled to see Southwest expand its options in Des Moines and grateful for their continued investment in Central Iowa."
Southwest's March 2027 schedule also includes a seasonal increase to daily nonstop service between Des Moines and Phoenix (PHX). Service to Chicago Midway (MDW) will continue with one daily nonstop flight.
DSM has experienced record passenger traffic in recent years, and the new terminal was designed to accommodate future growth by providing additional gate capacity, improved operational efficiency, and an enhanced passenger experience. We will continue working closely with its airline partners to identify new opportunities that expand air service and provide Iowa travelers with more destinations and travel choices.
