Lifting Growth Opportunities 

All of the Lift DSM projects work together to create long-term growth and expansion options.  A major part of the terminal development plan was to build and relocate all cargo operations as well as fixed-based operations to the south side of the airport campus.  Relocation efforts continue; however, they will wrap in 2023, clearing the northeast side of the campus for construction of the new terminal building.   Through these efforts, FedEx expanded and improved its facility and Signature Flight Support and Des Moines Flying Service built larger, modern facilities for their operations.  As we prepare for future demand, additional development areas have been identified throughout this process. 

Another Lift DSM growth opportunity will be the new terminal concourse which will provide more seating for passengers as they wait to board their flights while also providing the Airport Authority flexible options to meet ever-changing passenger needs.  The gates will accommodate larger planes enabling more seats to the destinations Iowans love to fly.  Boarding bridges in the new terminal will be at every gate allowing for air service growth and more flexible and efficient airline operations.
